Definition of wellbeing
It means living well. Wellbeing is a good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized byhealth, happiness, and pro sperity, welfare.
Types of wellbeing
Two types-
A. Objective well being
B. Subjective well being
A. Objective wellbeing :
- Objective wellbeing is referred to as standard of living or “”level of living. It depends upon standard of living.
B. Subjective wellbeing :
- Subjective wellbeing is referred to as “quality of life”.
✓ It does not depend upon financial status of individual.
✓ It depends on personal feeling and happiness.

Components of human well-being
Subjective components of well-being:
1. Standard of living: It depends on per capita, GNP (gross national product)
2. Level of living
3. Quality of life.
Standard of living
It refers to the usual scale of our expenditure, the goods we consume and the services we enjoy. It includes the level of education, employment status, food, dress, house, amusements and comforts of modem living.
WHO definition: Income and occupation, standards of housing, sanitation and nutrition, the level of provision of health, educational, recreational and other services may all be used individually as measures of socioeconomic status and collectively as an index of the “standard of living”.
Level of living
It consists of 9 components –

3. Education
4. Occupation & working conditions
5. Housing
6. Social security
7. Clothing
8. Recreation & leisure
9. Human rights
Quality of life: WHO defined as-
The condition of life resulting from the combination of the effects of the complete range of factors such as those determining health, happiness (including comfort in the physical environment and a satisfying occupation), education, social & intellectual attainments, freedom of action, justice and freedom of expression.
