Convulsive disorder – Health of the children has been considered as the vital importance to all societies because children are the basic resource for the future of humankind. Nursing care of children is concerned for both the health of the children and for the illnesses that affect their growth and development. The increasing complexity of medical and nursing science has created a need for special area of child care, i.e. pediatric- nursing.
Pediatric-nursing is the specialized area of nursing practice concerning the care of children during wellness and illness. It includes preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative care of children. It emphasizes on all round development of body, mind and spirit of the growing individual. Thus, pediatric-nursing involves in giving assistance, care and support to the growing and developing children to achieve their individual potential for functioning with fullest capacity.
Convulsive disorder

Convulsion is the involuntary contraction or series of contractions of the voluntary muscles. It occurs due to disturbances of the brain functions resulting from abnormal excessive electrical discharge from the brain. It is manifested by involuntary, motor, sensory, autonomic or psychie phenomenon, alone or in combination. It may be associated with alteration of level of consciousness. Convulsion is also termed as seizure.
Convulsions are more commonly found in infants and children. It is a symptom found in various diseases. The overall incidence in childhood is about 8%. It is more commonly found along with cerebral palsy (35%) and in mental retardation (20%).
During convulsions, motor movements are frequently observed, which may be associated with loss of consciousness. Generalized tonic-clonic convulsions, ie, features of major fits are rarely found in neonates. Neonatal convulsions are seen as twitching of the limbs, fluttering of eyelids conjugate deviations of eyes or as sucking movements. Convulsions should be differentiated from tremors, jitteriness, startle response to stimuli and sudden jerks.
