Patriarchal Family – Behavioral sciences explore the cognitive processes within organisms and the behavioral interactions between organisms in the natural world. It involves the systematic analysis and investigation of human and animal behavior through the study of the past, controlled and naturalistic observation of the present and disciplined scientific experimentation and modeling.
It attempts to accomplish legitimate, objective conclusions through rigorous formulations and observation. Generally, behavior science deals primarily with human action and often seeks to generalize about human behavior as it relates to society.
Patriarchal Family
The patriarchal family is also known as father centered or father dominated family. Here, the father or the eldest man is the head of the family and he exercise authority. He is also owner and administrator of the family property. On all family matters he is the final voice and opinion.
Definition of Patriarchal Family:
Patriarchy is a social system in which males hold primary power, predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property. In the domain of the family, fathers or father-figures hold authority over women and children.

Characteristics of Patriarchal Family:
1. Descent, inheritance, and succession are recognized through the male line. The patriarchal are patrilineal in characters, because the descent is traced through the male line. Here only the male children inherit the property of the father. In some instances, the eldest son enjoys some special rights. He normally succeeds the father after his death. Children are recognized as the children of father and the mother is practically ignored.
2. Residence: Patriarchal family is patrilocal in residence. Some continue to stay with the father in his own house even after their marriage. Only the wives come and join them.
3. Authority: here is the father or the eldest man of the family is the dominant person. He is all in all, he is known as Karta. All the members are subordinated to him. He dedicates terms for other members. All the major decisions pertaining to the family affairs are taken by him only.
